Distance learning, online education, eLearning, call it what you will, has long ago moved from experiment into the mainstream of education. The vast majority of colleges throughout the United States provide some form of distance learning. For the most part, distance learning centers on the Internet, beginning with online registration and enrollment, to online access to your course instructor, tutorials, materials and fellow learners, all the way through assignments and examinations. It's the whole deal!
A steady stream of research has demonstrated that, when done right, distance learning is every bit as effective, engaging and fulfilling as classroom-based learning. There are important differences you need to consider when contemplating an online course. This page will help you think it through. For now, it's important to know that "learners do not learn from technology, they learn from thinking and doing." Course design and facilitation, on top of instructor expertise, make the difference. We at Santa Fe Community College are committed to providing you the best in distance learning -- by design!
Advantages of Distance Learning
