Three Vital Considerations

To decide if distance learning is for you, consider the following issues:

  • Lifestyle issues address how learning fits into your busy life. Do I have the time and self-discipline to apply myself to the extent necessary for success? What priority do I place on learning at this point in my life? Refer to the top 10 myths of distance learning for more discussion.
  • Student skills center on reading, writing and communication skills, as well as personal responsibility. Do my reading and writing skills match the requirements of the course? Am I comfortable expressing myself and seeking help when needed? For example, distance learners must assume more responsibility for their learning by taking the initiative for requesting clarification and instructor feedback.
  • Technical skills include both computer and Internet applications. Am I comfortable using computer software and the Internet? Do I know how to locate, download and install software from the Internet?
